Remote Purity

While some pearls originate in Rakahanga and Penrhyn, the main home of Avaiki pearls is Manihiki. A necklace of islands in the vast blueness of the Pacific, Manihiki lies 1200 kilometres north of Rarotonga, the capital of the Cook Islands.

Rising abruptly from the 5000 metre deep ocean floor, Manihiki is home to less than 500 inhabitants.

Within the 60 motu (islets) that make up the atoll's perimeter, Avaiki pearls thrive in the clear waters of a 9 kilometre wide, nutrient-rich lagoon.
